Kelly forceps are hemostatic clamps used to compress blood vessels and control bleeding during surgery. What are Kelly forceps used for?

Material and construction
Kelly forceps are typically manufactured from martensitic stainless steel, hardened and tempered to hold the ratchet's geometry under repeated load. Two process steps determine service life more than the alloy name:
Heat treatment sets the hardness. Under-hardened forceps deform at the ratchet and stop holding; over-hardened forceps become brittle at the box lock.
Passivation builds the chromium-oxide layer that resists corrosion. Skipped or shortened passivation is invisible on delivery and decisive after twenty autoclave cycles.
