AISI 420 Martensitic Steel
Contains 0.15%-0.40% carbon and 12-14% chromium. Heat treated to 50-54 HRc hardness. Used in premium Kelly forceps, Mayo scissors, and heavy-duty bone rongeurs for optimal edge retention and corrosion resistance.
AISI 440 High-Hardness Steel
Contains 0.60%-1.20% carbon and 16-18% chromium. Reaches 56-60 HRc hardness. Reserved for micro-scissors, osteotomes, and delicate dissection scalpels requiring extreme sharpness.
AISI 410 Martensitic Steel
Contains 0.15% carbon max and 11.5-13.5% chromium. Heat treated to 40-45 HRc. Provides optimal tensile flexibility for self-retaining abdominal retractors, speculums, and dilators.
Tungsten Carbide (TC) Inserts
Welded to the inner jaws of needle holders and cutting edges of premium scissors. Achieves 70+ HRc equivalent hardness, lasting up to 5 times longer than standard steel under heavy clinical use.
